Job Description

Lead a thriving small-animal team in Saint Johnsbury, VT, with compensation up to $155,000. Up to $75,000 sign-on bonus available for the right Medical Director to guide high-quality care and a collaborative culture.

The Hospital
A long-standing, community-focused small-animal practice with strong local reviews and recent service recognition seeks a Medical Director to build on its record of excellent care. The appointment-based hospital operates primarily on weekday days, offering a predictable workflow and the support of a multi-level clinical team that includes experienced veterinary technicians, assistants, and practice management.

The Role
- Serve as the clinical leader, setting and upholding medical quality standards and patient safety
- Provide hands-on clinical care for the majority of the schedule while leading by example
- Mentor, coach, and develop veterinarians; foster excellent client communication and complete medical records
- Guide consistent standards through doctor meetings, case reviews, and protocol alignment
- Partner with practice leadership on scheduling, workflow optimization, inventory management, and team utilization
- Oversee appropriate use and maintenance of medical equipment and ensure regulatory compliance
- Support community outreach that builds client trust and access to quality care
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding of veterinary talent
- Serve as the responsible veterinarian for controlled substances, radiation safety, and required registrations

Requirements
- DVM/VMD or equivalent
- Active or eligible Vermont veterinary license
- Active or eligible DEA registration and any required state-controlled substance registrations
- Minimum 3-5 years of clinical experience; prior leadership experience preferred
- Strong communication, clinical judgment, and team-building skills
- Eligibility to work in the United States
- Ability to commit to a minimum of 35 hours per week
