Job Description

Job Title: Interior Design Intern
Location: Malvern, Pennsylvania
Company: Z. Domus Designs

Position Overview

Z. Domus Designs is an acclaimed interior design firm based in Malvern, PA, specializing in high-end new builds and full-scale renovations. Known for our design-meets-construction approach, we create clarity between design vision and construction execution, partnering closely with builders, trades, and clients to deliver timeless, thoughtfully executed homes.

Our team works out of a newly expanded 4,500+ square foot studio, designed to support creativity, collaboration, and focused work. The studio environment allows designers to work closely with their peers, review drawings and materials together, and engage in hands-on problem-solving that strengthens both design quality and technical execution.

We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Interior Design Intern to join our team. This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of interior design while working alongside our Senior Construction Designer. As an Interior Design Intern, you will assist in various day-to-day design duties, projects, and tasks, providing invaluable support to ensure the smooth operation of our design processes.

This internship focuses on interior finishes and construction design, offering exposure to the technical and material aspects of interior environments rather than furnishings or décor. You will be part of a dynamic team specializing in interior finish selections, construction coordination, and design documentation, gaining valuable insight into how thoughtful material decisions shape high-quality built spaces.

Work Schedule

  • Paid Internship beginning after Memorial Day until Mid August. (12–16 week internship)
  • In studio, located in Malvern, PA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Senior Construction Designer to execute interior finish and construction design concepts and projects.
  • Assist in sample pick-ups, fabric sourcing, and other material acquisitions.
  • Assist with finish selections, material palettes, and construction-related design documentation.
  • Aid in the preparation and setup of presentations, ensuring materials are organized and visually appealing.
  • Support with administrative tasks such as organizing design files, maintaining project documentation, and scheduling appointments.
  • Contribute creative ideas and solutions to design challenges.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized workspace to promote efficiency and productivity.
  • Uphold company standards and values while representing the brand professionally.

Qualifications

  • Must have your own transportation to travel to work, meetings, and site visits.
  • College students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (transcripts are required). Preferred college students enrolled in an Interior Design or related program.
  • Applicants must provide a resume and portfolio of past work/projects demonstrating their interior design skills and ability to contribute effectively to our team.
  • Requires use of your personal laptop.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Previous experience or internship in interior design is advantageous but not required.
  • Interest in construction design and interior finishes (preferred but not required).

Compensation and Benefits

  • $16 per hour
  • Half-day Fridays – out by 12pm every Friday
  • Referral letter provided upon completion of the internship
  • Mileage will be reimbursed for travel to locations other than our studio
  • Opportunity to work on diverse projects and contribute to real-world design solutions
  • Exposure to industry-standard tools and software
Join us as an Interior Design Intern to develop your skills, expand your knowledge, and kickstart your career in the world of interior design. We offer a collaborative and supportive work environment where you'll have the opportunity to work on diverse projects and contribute to real-world design solutions.
