Job Description | School Food Specialist
JOB DUTIES, TASKS, AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
To provide and maintain the kitchen area in a hygienic, safe and presentable condition. Be responsible
for the preparation of all food and nutrition aspects for the center while following all state and regulatory
guidelines. Ensures that safe food and proper sanitation methods are employed at all times. Keep an
inventory of all food, paper, and other supplies needed for the kitchen.
• Interacts with the children and models socially appropriate behavior while delivering food to and from the classroom.
This may require frequent standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, and lifting to engage with the children
• Follows all safety and security policies and procedures and documents any accidents/incidents, accordingly, immediately
notifies and communicates any issues or concerns to the director
• Cooks and prepares meals by strictly following the recipes contained within the Nemours Standardized lunch and snack
menus
• Solely responsible for unloading the food order from the food truck, which requires bending, stooping, lifting, and
overhand reaching, and putting all food items away in their designated areas
• Successfully completes each food order by visually maintaining all inventories and writing or typing each order; and
adheres to all AEA food guidelines
• Cleans and sanitizes the kitchen, including all utensils and cookware, by washing all dishes; sweeping, mopping, and
cleaning all of the kitchen areas (including, but not limited to the floors, countertops, stove tops, and student eating
areas); and disposing of waste and cleaning products in an appropriate manner. The listed tasks require frequent
bending, stooping, lifting, pulling, and reaching.
• Strictly adheres to all safety and sanitary standards through visual reading and interpreting of OSHA procedures to
maintain a safe environment for children; regularly checks the temperature gauges in the freezer(s) and refrigerator(s)
• Performs kitchen-related maintenance; cleans leftover or uneaten food and returns them to their proper receptacles;
and returns supply and cleaning items to their proper locations.
• Regularly communicates, both verbally or in writing, with parents regarding Director-approved menu changes and food
serving schedules.
• Attends all staff meetings as scheduled by director
• Maybe required to take additional training classes or courses as required by Amazing Explorers Academy or any state or
regulatory agency
• Maybe required to take the required Department of Children and Families 45 hour childcare courses or other state
required classes or certifications
• Other job duties as assigned

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum 18 years old
• Must meet state licensing requirements for education including maintaining in-service hours as required by state licensing
agencies or accrediting bodies
• Must meet all standards and requirements relating to education and experience as set by the state and accreditation agent.
• Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent
• Prefer prior cooking experience in a childcare center or related field
• Prefer CPR and First Aid certification; be willing to obtain once hired
• Must be able to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in the English language.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Throughout the course and conduct of working as a school food specialist, the following conditions may apply:
• May occasionally: work in temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit and below 32 degrees Fahrenheit; walk on slippery or
uneven surfaces; and climb ladders or work off elevated structures on an occasional basis during the work week.
• The noise level of the work environment is frequently loud.
• May be moderate exposure to hazards and/or childhood illnesses.
